User Reviews:

The penguins in the Madagascar movies are one of the reasons why the series become so memorable, and there is indeed no doubt why a spin-off for them would exist. A full-length feature of crazy antics and appropriately weird adventures would guarantee a fun film. While that is what somewhat outcomes here in Penguins of Madagascar, the movie as well tries to fit in some arc, but what is executed doesn't seem to work, taking over much of what makes these characters appealing. Of course, they could have taken it a lot simpler, but out of conventions, they have to add some big drama, but it turns out that element doesn't feel natural to the overall experience.

While the plot doesn't offer enough intrigue, the main point of the movie is having these penguins do the most ridiculous schemes they could do for the entire runtime. While it gets real fun when they are simply fooling around in their mission and at each other, there is some various arcs that are supposed to elevate the story, but those are the parts where the movie doesn't have much to do. Whatever lead there is some forced redemption and some easily solved subplots. It's rather unfulfilled as a result. If the viewers could ignore this fault, then the comedy gets things right, you could find some big laughs, especially at its occasional cleverest humor. Though, the imagination of the jokes slowly fades halfway through. There was too much effort for the action, they seem to lose ideas for better jokes, mostly the pointlessly repetitive celebrity name puns that gets old too easily.

Apart from the basic points, Penguins of Madagascar is perfect for a totally exciting action film, though it can get a bit too tiring. But there is a lot of dazzling zaniness at every animated set piece that is fueled with endless craziness. This is what these movies are only interested at nowadays, creating the most dashing visuals, even if we no longer know what is going on anymore. Maybe that is enough for people to see it in 3D. The cast is pretty fun; the voices behind the penguins still did what they do best. While the ones that did the side characters also serve some memorable vocal performances.

There isn't much to merit in Penguins of Madagascar other than its extremely cartoony action scenes and some other silliness. The drama within the main characters just doesn't help much. It doesn't give enough impact and it feels more like an obligation. But the best decision is it shouldn't have been a big deal for the movie. I mean there were standalone Madagascar Penguin short films that worked better because it is done in straightforward comedy. Not that bringing some heart is a bad thing, but I guess we like these characters better if they are colder as they fool around. For now, it's still entertaining, but you may not find anything else special about it.
